Sep 29, 1950 – Joseph W. Arnold Life-Long Resident, Dies at Age of 88
Joseph William Arnold, one of this community's oldest and most highly respected citizens died at the home of a daughter, Mrs T. J. Drown of Cross Roads, Thursday, September 21 at 4:15 o'clock. He was 86 years of age and all of his life was spent in this vicinity. For one of his age, Mr Arnold had enjoyed comparatively good health until some three months ago.
Mr Arnold was born in Baxter County and all his life was spent in Baxter and Izard counties. He was married to Miss Sylvia Young on February 5, 1886 to which union ten children were born, all of whom survive. He professed religion at the age of 44 years and joined the Iuka Methodist Church of which he was a member at the time of his passing.
Surviving are eight daughters; Mrs R. W. Marchant, Rae Valley, Ark., Mrs D. M. Sanders, Pineville, Ark., Mrs Luther Keylon, Franklin, Ark., Mrs J. H. Lovelace, Moody, Mo., Mrs T. J. Drown, Cross Roads, Ark., Mrs Ray Ingram and Mrs W. B. Killian, Calico Rock, and Mrs Cleo Martin, Summit, Ark.; two sons, John Arnold, Marked Tree, Ark., and Homer Arnold, Calico Rock; one brother, John Arnold, Old Joe, Ark., one sister; Mrs Sarah Jane Smith; 40 grandchildren; about 50 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Luther K. Wilson, pastor of the Calico Rock Methodist Church, at the Pleasant Valley Community Church, Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Interment was made in the Staggs Cemetery, with the Roller-Barber Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
