bio info from Ingham Co Democrat
April 21, 1898, Thursday, Page 8, column 2
Emily Lowell died at her late residence in this village last Tuesday afternoon, after an illness of 10 days, aged 77 years. She had been a resident of Ingham county for nearly 50 years. She was buried by the side of her late husband in the Dansville cemetery on the following Thursday afternoon. She leaves a brother and two sisters.
Note: Her surviving brother is Lorenzo D. Chadwick, and her surviving sisters are Mahala Collier and Louisa Wygant.
Emily Lowell left a will and probate file, online at Ancestry. It was written a few days before she died. It leaves $100 to her adopted son William Osa and the remainder of the estate in trust for the care of her beloved sister Mahala Collier. At the time, Mahala was living with Emily. The trustee of the estate was her brother Lorenzo D. Chadwick. After Lorenzo D. Chadwick dies in May 1920 there is a petition to have another trustee set up for Emily’s trust. The suggestion was that it should be Lorenzo’s son Elijah M. Chadwick. This is the family with whom Mahala lived for the rest of her life until 1911. This petition delineates lots of the siblings and their children. I do not believe it to be fully inclusive, however.
Miles and Emily did not have any children but there are three children found in the census records with them.
Eliza Lowell, actually Eliza Ann Smith, detailed on Miles Lowell's FaG page.
Nettie Chadwick, Find-a-Grave #49234005. She was the daughter of Emily Chadwick Lowell’s nephew Charles.
William Osa Lowell, who in Emily’s will, is identified as an adopted son.
