Erwin Morris, 83, of Winside, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 6 at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Wayne. The Rev. Gail Axen and the Rev. Ray McCalla will officiate. Memorial visitation will be held Friday, March 5 from 5-8 p.m. at Hasemann Funeral Home in Winside with family present.
Erwin Dale Morris was born May 1, 1926 at Carroll to Edwal and Anna Mae (Thomas) Morris. He attended rural school at District #83 near Winside and Carroll High School. Erwin served in the United States Army in Korea with 63rd Regiment 6th Division from 1945 until his discharge on Dec. 13, 1946. Erwin married Janice Rath on Jan. 8, 1950 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge. The couple farmed near Carroll where Erwin was born and lived all of his life, until retiring to Winside. He moved to the Norfolk Veterans Home after a fall in 2009.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; children Glenda (Pat) McDonald of Carroll, Diane (Mark) Frans of Omaha, Nancy (Scott) Deck of Hoskins, and Edward (Corinne) Morris of Carroll; sisters Tillie Jones and Eva Hoemann both of Wayne; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Wendell; three brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
Honorary pallbearers will be Erwin and Janice's grandchildren Amy Grotewald Schluns, DeAnna Wennekamp, Tami Schluns, Heather Gosda, Jeffrey Frans, Andrea Beaudette, Michael Deck, Eric Morris, Daniel Morris, Zachary Morris, Jordan McDonald and Austin McDonald.
Memorials may be made to the Wayne Veterans Memorial.
Burial will be at a later date at Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery of rural Carroll. Hasemann Funeral Home of Winside is in charge of arrangements.
