She was born Claudia Crump Feb. 2, 1874 in Barry County, MI. to Henry and Amelia (Highland) Crump, and move to the Crump settlement at the north end of Burt Lake at the age of two with her parents. She attended the country school at Crump Settlement. On May 4, 1897 she married Joseph Butler at Crump Settlement and made their home in the Brutus area until 1941 when they moved to Petoskey and lived with a daughter, Ethel Butler. Mr. Butler died on Feb. 25, 1942. Mrs. Butler attended the First Church of God in Petoskey.
Survivors include one son, Percy J, of Charlevoix; two daughters, Ethel Butler and Mrs. Laura Parkey, both of Petoskey; one step-daughter, Mrs. Edith Palmer, of Pellston; eight grandchildren.
