On January 1, 1914 in Pella, Barbara married Jacob Arie Van Dyke, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Johanna (Romers) Van Dyke. She and Jake lived in Pella for a time and that's where their first child was born. Then they leased and farmed land near Ankeny [where the rest of their children were born], then they moved to Kellogg in about 1927.
They had four children: Gerald Keith; Merwyn Dale; Edward Alvin; and Frances Elizabeth. After Jake passed away in 1954, Barbara lived first with daughter Fran in Texas, then with son Mer in California. That is where she was living in 1975 when she died. She was 87 years old.
In her later years, she was always making something -- she knitted, crocheted, quilted and did needlepoint and crewel work which she gifted to her family members.
