Clarence Marshall Brown was born in a town that no longer exists. The prominence of the family in that town was illustrated by the existence of photos and paintings. Clarence was the first born son of Marshal F. and L. Flora Brown. He lived only a little more than eight years before he contracted scarlet fever and was diagnosed with Brights Disease which led to his youthful departure from this mortal existence. He was originally buried with his grandparents in Brown cemetery, but was removed to New Salem where he was memorialized on both front and back of the new gravestone at Mountain View Cemetery.
