Was the daughter of a pioneering family. Her father James W. Bartee, came to Texas from Georgia; her mother Elizabeth Haddox Bartee was the daughter of William Haddox, and Nancy Ann Vineyard Haddox who migrated from Tennessee.
Mary married George Franklin McCullar. They moved from Pearson chapel to Lovelady in 1910 and bought a farm home one mile west of town.
