William James was the second of eight children and the oldest son of James W Bartee and Elizabeth Ann Haddox. He married Louisa Kyle, July 13, 1887, in Houston County, Texas. William and Louisa moved with their children, to Greer County, Oklahoma in late 1900 or early 1901. They were the parents of 10 children, losing an infant in the early 1890s in Houston County, Texas, and their daughter Jessie, who died at the age of nineteen in Oklahoma. Louisa died in August of 1913 with the birth of the last child, William Polk.

W. J. Bartee, 73, well known Greer County farmer, died suddenly on Sunday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs Ripley Harris, in Mangum. Death followed a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the home of his daughter Mrs. Mildred Harris, in Mangum.

Mr Bartee had been a Greer County Resident since 1906. His wife, the former Lousia Kyle, succumbed 25 years ago.

Children surviving are John Bartee, Mangum; Roy Bartee, Springlake, Texas; Knox Bartee, Hollis;, Mrs Bessie McAllister, Reed; Mrs Ripley Harris, Mangum; Mrs Sammie Hudson, Mangum; Miss Irene Bartee, Mangum and W P Bartee, Houston, Texas. Additional survivors include 11 grandchildren.
