Mr. Nelson retired three years ago as custodian at Washington school. He was a former officer in the Building Service Employees Union, Local 98.
Born near Dixon, Mo., Mr. Nelson had been a Granite City resident for 40 years. He and his wife, May, began their Missouri vacation last Friday.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Frank, of Granite City; two daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Rosetta) Elmore and Mrs. Clarence (Olive) Phelps, both of Granite City; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Robinson [sic] of Dixon, Mo., and Mrs. Emma Bell of Omaha, Neb; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending at a Dixon funeral home, with services and burial to be conducted there.
