One son and one infant daughter preceded him.
He married second, Julia A. Fishel in Richland Co. on 20 Sept 1883.
One daughter and 5 sons were born. Harry D. Bowen, Dora E. Bowen, Mattie E. Bowen, Clyde P. Bowen and Clarence E. Bowen, all of whom together with wife Julia survive.

He enlisted in Co. B 88th Ohio Inf. on 7 Nov. 1863 and served until the close of the Civil war.
He came to Il. in the fall of 1865 and to Decker Township in 1884 where he lived.
