Howard J. Alexander Jr. a retired barber, he practiced his trade for 61 years. He was a lifelong cattleman employed by Brown Stockyard and Dominique's Stockyard and a bus driver for the Pointe Coupee Parish school system. He also worked at a St. Francisville paper mill for several years.
He died at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at his home in Jarreau. He was 82 and a native of Plaquemine.
Visiting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lakeland, with Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in Chenal Cemetery.
Survived by his wife, Mary Lois Alexander; daughter, Marianne Alexander Patin and husband Jesse; sister, Loretta Alexander Fabre; two grandchildren, Kristopher Patin and wife Erin, and Nicholas Patin; and great-grandson, Luke Patin. Pallbearers will be Kristopher Patin, Nicholas Patin, Jesse Patin, Mike Fabre, Jeff Smith and Clement Guidroz.
Honorary pallbearers are Carl Fabre, Manuel Guidroz and Esmond Drott. Preceded in death by his parents, Howard Alexander Sr. and Agnes Aucoin; daughter, Linda Alexander Guidroz; and son, David Randell Alexander.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post 248, New Roads, Knights of Columbus Council 8878 and the Louisiana Cattlemen's Association. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pointe Coupee Hospice or American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Wilbert Funeral Home, Port Allen. -
