Gus was born Gabriel Martinius Andreasen Holte, the son of Andreas Andersen Holte and Tomine Olsdatter Foss.

He had at least nine siblings: Anders, Gunille, Ole Herman, Gjertru Marie, Anna Tomine, Jertrud Marie, Sofie, Kristine, and Syvert.

Gus married Severine Sofie Andersdatter Omtvedt on November 21, 1890.

They were the parents of one unknown daughter. Severine died shortly after.

Gus married Mathilda Nelson on February 1, 1899.

They were the parents of seven children: Arthur Thomas, Stella, Ole, Gladys Myrtle, Clara Margaret, Alf Spencer, and Norman Severt.

Gabriel Holte 1864-1935

Gabriel A. Holte, age 71, one of the pioneer settlers of Clearwater County, passed away very suddenly last Friday, the immediate cause of his death being heart failure.
Gabriel Holte was born the 26th of October, 1864. His parents were Andreas and Tomine Holte of Tvette Sogn, Topdal, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Hanson, who for many years remained to be the pastor of his home circuit.
Mr. Holte came to America in 1883 and located first at Tigerton, Wisconsin. Here he worked for many years in lumber camps and was employed in sawing lumber most of the time. It was on the 16th of May, 1896 that he came to Clearwater County and homesteaded a quarter section of land in Eddy Township where he has since lived. In 1893 he visited his parents in Norway and on returning came to Wisconsin. His first wife was Severne Klovdal, who lived only a few months after their marriage. On February 1, 1899, he was married to Mathilda Nelson of Withenberg, Wisconsin and they came to this county to live.
Mr. Holte is survived by his wife, four sons, three daughters, all living here, and a brother and four sisters who live in Norway. The children, are Arthur, Stella, (Mrs. Gustac Uppman), Ole, Gladys, Clara, Alf and Norman.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 27th at 2 o'clock at the Concordia Church, Rev. G.P. Nesseth officiating.
Mr. Holte was known as a very industrious man, honest and upright in his dealings and is one who will be greatly missed by his neighbors as well as his family.
