CROSSVILLE, TN — Carolyn Ann Marlow died at approximately 6:39 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010, in Crossville, TN after a year-long struggle with cancer. Ms. Marlow was 56 years old.

Carolyn was born September 1, 1953, in Crossville, as the third of four children born to Dewey Harold Marlow and Anna Marie Hinch Marlow. Carolyn grew up in the Homestead community of Cumberland County. She attended Homestead Elementary School and Cumberland County High School (CCHS) and was a cheerleader at both schools. She was also in the band at CCHS where she graduated in 1971.

Carolyn attended University of Tennessee in Knoxville and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics with a major in nutrition in December 1975. She then attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and obtained a Master of Science degree in nutrition in January 1978, after having performed her internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland. Carolyn then worked in Cleveland with the Rainbow Babies and Children's hospital as a nutritionist specializing in the needs of child patients with terminal illnesses.

In 1982 Carolyn moved to Chattanooga where she worked as a staff nutritionist at East Ridge Hospital, Erlanger Hospital and the University of Tennessee. From August 24, 1987, until September 15, 2009, Carolyn worked for Dialysis Clinic Incorporated (DCI) as a nutritionist for patients with end-stage renal disease in Chattanooga and Dayton, with her primary location being the DCI dialysis clinic at 1816 Hamill Road in Hixson. Carolyn was a loving advisor and counselor to all her patients and an active member in the Chattanooga District Dietetic Association.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in the 1990s, Carolyn underwent a series of treatments through the years. Carolyn was an active member and supporter of cancer support groups in Chattanooga where she had many friends. She also was an active bridge player and a lover of cats.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Dewey Harold Marlow, who died on November 8, 2004.

Carolyn is survived by her mother, Marie Hinch Marlow, of Crossville; her brother, Randall H. Marlow, of Dothan, Ala., and his wife, Sherry and their two children, Allison Marlow and William Marlow; her brother, Robert Lee Marlow, of Shelbyville, Tenn., and his wife, Letha, and Robert's two children, R. Bentley Marlow, of Knoxville, and Sarah Marlow, of Crossville; and her brother, James Allen Marlow of Winnweiler, Germany, and his wife Sabine and their two children, Lucas Marlow and Eric Marlow; special friends Mike and Debbie Scarbrough Miller, of Crossville and their two children, Stacy Miller, of Crossville and Curtis Miller, of Nashville.

Funeral services are to be held today, February 23, 2010 at 10 a.m. CST at Bilbrey Funeral Home in Crossville.

Burial at Crossville City Cemetery.
