ARCOLA — Bentley E. Barnett, 78, of Arcola died at 11:40 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 5, 1992) at We Care Nursing Home in Arcola.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola with the Revs. Terry Ford and Barney Wells officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in VanVoorhis Cemetery, northeast of Hindsboro.
He was born Oct. 1, 1914, south of Oakland, the son of J.W. and Lena Pribble Barnett. He married Marjorie Baker in 1944; she died in 1965. He later Helen Baker in 1967; she died in 1990.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Bernadine) J.W. Carroll of Brockton; two brothers, J.W. Barnett Jr. of Saybrook and Jim Barnett of Gifford; three sisters, Dorothy Thomas of Arcola, Mrs. Rose Blagg of Arcola and Mrs. Marjorie Douglas of Hindsboro; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one daughter.
Mr. Barnett was a member of the Arcola VFW, Arcola American Legion, Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from the Federal Soil Conservation Service.
