GIFFORD – Jimmie C. "Jim" Barnett, 83, of Gifford went to see the Lord on the evening of Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
He was born Nov. 27, 1934, in rural Hindsboro, a son of John and Lena (Pribble) Barnett. He married Martha Warnes on Sept. 12, 1964, in Long View. She survives.
He is a survived by a son, John W. Barnett of Gifford; a sister, Marjorie Douglas of Clinton, Ind.; two grandchildren, Darren Barnett and Elaine Barnett, both of Gifford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and an infant daughter.
Jim farmed in the Gifford area since 1939. He also worked at Rogers Chevrolet in the parts department for over 50 years. He was a member of the Gifford Methodist Church.
He was a member of the I&I Tractor Club. He was an avid stock car racing enthusiast and loved his 1954 and 1957 trucks.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gifford Methodist Church. The Rev. George Desmond will officiate. His journey to the Huls Cemetery will be in his 1954 Chevrolet truck as per his wishes.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 Friday evening at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Gifford State Bank for a college fund for his grandchildren or to the Gifford Methodist Church.
