John Molnar of Downingtown

John Molnar, 90, of Downingtown, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Brandywine Medical Center.

Born in Branchdale, he was the son of the late Michael Molnar and the late Helen Duran Molnar.

He graduated from West Chester University in 1938 with his bachelors degree and Temple University in 1953 with his masters.

Mr. Molnar taught at St. Agnes High School starting in 1946 and was the head varsity basketball coach from 1947-1957.

He also coached cross country and baseball.

He taught at Fannette Metal High School in Willow Hill from 1957 to 1960, and at Stetson Middle School from 1961 until his retirement in 1979.

He was a member of the American Legion Post of West Chester.

He received Special Honors with the Knights of Columbus Council #1333 West Chester.

The John Molnar Day on Nov. 4, 1988, was contrived by many St. Agnes High School alumni who benefited greatly from his dedication to teaching, guidance and coaching, and he received a plaque from the Borough of West Chester.

He was a member of St. Josephs Church in Downingtown and The Sacred Heart of the Rosary (prayer group).

Mr. Molnar served in the Army as a Staff Sgt. during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Gallery Molnar of Downingtown, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage; two daughters, Maryann Nickel and husband Robert of Key West, Fla., and Elizabeth Odum and husband Russ of Denver, Colo.; one son, Michael Molnar and wife Shirley of Walkersville, Md.; sister, Helen Peron of Minersville; grandchildren, Ricky L. Clay and wife Crystal of Tallahassee, Fla., Emily and Michael Molnar of Walkersville, Md., and Kara and Matthew Odum of Denver, Colo; a great-grandchild, Sincere Clay of Tallahassee, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held Monday, Jan. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 10, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia, Reilly & Smith Funeral Home Inc., 410 N. Church St., West Chester. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at St. Agnes Church, 233 W. Gay St., West Chester.

Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Kennett Square.
