Jerome Karst was educated in the public schools of St. Louis and was a member of St. Louis University Class of 1876. On 14 February 1901 he married Adele Maria Plaisance in New Orleans. Before his marriage he had been with Merchant's National Bank, St. Louis. After the marriage he undertook what came to be a highly successful career in insurance.
Realizing the value of outdoor sports & recreation, he conceived the idea of using public parks for sports such as tennis, golf, baseball. His efforts brought forth great success in St. Louis, so he personally took his campaign to other large cities, meeting success at every turn. He then campaigned to bring the Olympic Games to St. Louis for the 1904 World's Fair. He had, in one way, changed the world. Personally, he loved ice skating which was hugely popular in Forest Park.
