Sylvester Newton Merritt, a life long resident of Hendricks Co. passed away at his home near Montclair Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock. He had been ill the past sixteen days and his death was caused by apoplexy.

Mr. Merritt was born seventy years ago in Hendricks Co. and was a son of George W. and Melvina (Johnson) Merritt. He was married June 3, 1891, in Levanon to Rosa A. Johnson, who survives. Besides the wife he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Herbert Flanagam of near Avon; a brother, William Merritt of
near Avon; a sister Mrs. Mary Flynn of near Danville, and two grandchildren, Gordon and Jimmy Flanagam. Four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Thurs. morn. at 10:30 o'clock at the Monteclair Christian Church with the Rev. Peter Watkins officiating. burial will be made in Oak Hill cemetery, Lebanon.
