PASSED AWAY
A.V. ANDERSON, FORMER RESIDENT OF ST. HELENA DIED IN OAKLAND

Amatus Virgil Anderson, who resided in St. Helena for over half a century, died Tuesday in Oakland. He had been in failing health for several years, and the news of his demise was no surprise to those who were aware of his enfeebled condition.

Deceased was a native of Missouri, and had reached the age of 64 years. He came to California in the year 1855 with his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Y. A. Anderson, who settled near St. Helena and shortly afterwards, became residents of the town. Rev. Anderson was the first pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the cornerstone of which was laid in 1860. He died in 1862.

Deceased lived in St. Helena until about two years ago, since which time he has resided with his son, Clarence H. Anderson of San Francisco.

For many years Mr. Anderson served as night watchman of the town of St. Helena, in which capacity he was a most reliable and efficient officer.

He is survived by a widow, whose home is at San Louis Obispo; four sons – Clarence H. Anderson of San Francisco, Fred E. and Clement Y. Anderson of San Jose, and Walter Anderson of San Louis Obispo, and one daughter, Mrs. Ira Caughey of Oakland.

The remains will be brought here for interment, in St. Helena cemetery.
