Clara was a daughter of Theodore Jones and Jennie Thoroman Jones. To this union was born a son, Thomas Eugene February 11, 1926. Herbert and Clara operated the store in Unity until his death on May 31, 1955.
Their son, Thomas Eugene and family moved to Unity from Dayton, Ohio to continue the store business. Thomas Eugene married Faye Lucille West on December 24, 1948. Faye Lucille was a daughter of John Arthur West and Exie Mae Martin West. Two children were born to Eugene and Lucille: Dale Keith, born September 15, 1952 and Jane Ann, born September 14, 1957.
Clara very ably assisted in the business until her health failed and deceased August 16, 1971. Eugene and Lucille as they are called by their many friends continues to operate Ryan's Grocery at the intersection of Unity Road and Wheat Ridge Road. The Unity store has always been a place where friends and neighbors could come, sit and talk about the weather, old times, or learn what was happening in the community.
