IVA JOSEPHINE REEVES

Iva Josephine Reeves, daughter of Phillip and Mary Dovenspike, was born on April 13, 1886, at Richland, Iowa, and passed away at the Baker Nursing Home in Chariton, January 15, 1946, at the age of 59 years, nine months and two days.

She was united in marriage July 5, 1899, to Theodore D. Reeves, who passed away December 9, 1942. Practically their entire lives were spent around Chariton, Iowa.

To this union seven children were born, all surviving. They are: Bert and Charles, of Chariton; John, of Milo; Mrs. Hazel Davidson, of Sewal; Mrs. Nellie Downard, of Russell; Mrs. Ruth Lovell, of Des Moines; and Mrs. Dorothy Perkins, of Osceola.

She had suffered a stroke of paralysis at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hazel Davidson in November, 1944. During the extended illness that followed she remained a patient sufferer. Everything that could be done was done to restore her to health but to no avail and she passed quietly away.

She was a most kind and loving wife and mother, always mindful of others before herself and never complaining. She always held the respect of everyone who knew her because of her kindness and sincere friendship. Fond memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

Besides her children, she is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Lillie Bowman, of Lucas; two brothers, John Dovenspike, of Chariton, and Frank Dovenspike, of Laramie, Wyoming. In addition she is survived by 23 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mrs. Ina Churchill, who passed away April 12, 1945, and a brother, Charles Dovenspike, who passed away Sept. 22, 1935.

Funeral services, in charge of the Rev. Archie E. Beals, of Russell, were held at the Miley funeral chapel Friday, January 18, at 2:00 p.m. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
