Rilla Inez Snyder was born to Caroline Kilfoyle and George G. Snyder. Caroline was the 3rd wife of George Snyder and Rilla was their first child of eleven children. (There are some documents that have her name as Orilla). She was born in Salt Lake City.
Over the years, Rilla's large family moved many times to various communities in northern Utah where her father would have farms and businesses such as boarding houses and saw mills.
Rilla never married. Rilla and Jennie (the eldest and the youngest child of George and Caroline) lived together their whole lives as single women. They were in the dressmaking and millinery business. This was their business when living in Utah and then later when living in California. They had a home in the SLC avenues area, built in 1902 and also shared a home in Los Angeles, California. Rilla was well known as the "head" of the family and according to family tradition, called family members frequently once telephones were available. Rilla was the manager of the new telephone exchange in Park City also.
Rilla lived to be almost 80 years old, passing away in 1936 in Los Angeles, California where most of her siblings had moved several years earlier.
