John Bootsma, 49, native of Pella and for 22 years in the drug business at Bloomfield, died very suddenly from a stroke shortly after 1:00 o'clock last Thursday afternoon. Born in Pella on April 5, 1886, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bootsma, the deceased attended the public schools and when a very young man he accepted a position as head of the drug department in a large store at Newton. From there he went to Bloomfield and entered the drug business there. Funeral services where held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Wagler Funeral home, Rev. Lloyd Tenant, M.F. Church, officiating. All business houses of Bloomfield closed for the funeral. The remains were brought here and Saturday afternoon a short service was held at the Wormhoudt and Plette funeral home and internment took place in the family burial lot in Graceland Cemetery.

Mr. Bootsma is survived by a daughter, Betty Jane, three sisters, Helen, wife of P.C. Van Gorp, New Sharon, Bessie, wife of K. Van Zante, Hanford, California, and Miss Dora Bootsma, Pella, and a brother Henry, St. Louis, Mo.
