Burley H. Alt, 78, of Chase, MD, and formerly of Smoke Hole, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009.

He was born on Oct. 19, 1931, in Smoke Hole and was the son of the late Frank J. Alt and May C. (VanMeter) Alt.

Mr. Alt retired from General Motors.

Surviving are one son, Mark Alt of Chase, MD; one daughter, Marsha Mitchell of Cockeysville, MD; one granddaughter, Julie Mitchell; two great-grandsons, Jordan and Jason; seven sisters, Wilma Wagner of Petersburg, Zola Kile, Ganel Armentrout and Sheila Kimble, all of Upper Tract, Kathleen Raker of Williamsport, PA, Thomasine Berg of Maysville and Millie Hedrick of Timberville, VA; four brothers, William "Jim" Alt of Lahmansville, Charles F. "Bo" Alt of Petersburg, Loy A. "Bubby" Alt of Green Spring and James "Pete" Alt of Warrenton, VA; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, whom they raised, Roger Alt of Upper Tract.

He was also preceded in death by an infant grandson, Jason; two sisters, Bessie Kimble and infant Bertha Alice Alt; and two brothers, Ervin and Raymond Alt.

Funeral services were held on Thursday at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, Essex, MD. Interment was in the Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, Essex, MD.
