He was born April 2, 1941 in Smoke Hole, WV and was the son of the late John Franklin "Doc" Alt and May Clara (VanMeter) Alt. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by four sisters, Wilma Wagner, Bertha Alt, Bessie Kimble and Zola Kile; four brothers, Ervin Alt, Burley Alt, Raymond B. Alt and Charles F. Alt.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy J. (Clark) Alt; special grandson, Casey Sites; special niece, Christy Friel; five sisters, Thomasine Berg of Maysville, WV, Ganel (Bob) Armentrout of Upper Tract, WV, Millie (Larry) Hedrick of Timberville, VA, Sheila Jean (Richard) Kimble of Upper Tract and Kathleen Raker of Williamsburg, PA.; two brothers, James A. (Jean) Alt of warrenton, VA. and Loy (Kitty) Alt of Green Spring and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a carpenter. Jim and his wife Nancy owned N & J sewing shop in Petersburg. He was a member of the Brushy Run Church of God and attended Cornerstone Family Fellowship Church in Petersburg.
Funeral service was Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Schaffer Funeral Home with Pastor P J Landis officiating. Family received friends one hour before service.
Interment was in Maysville Cemetery.
