FREELAND FARMER WM. BISHOP KILLED
Struck by Auto on Village Main Street - Life long in Vicinity.

William Bishop, 78 lifelong Freeland resident and prominent retired farmer, was fatally injured last night when struck by an automobile driven by Russell Garner, 21, living a short distance east of Freeland.
The accident happened on Main street in Freeland, near the intersection with US10, as Mr. Bishop was walking across the road in the company of Charles Goold, also of Freeland. Mr. Goold was not injured.
Garner told the investigating sheriff's officers, Deputy J.M. Brewster and Ray A Geddes, county detective, he saw only Mr. Goold, striking Mr. Bishop as he swerved to avoid his companion. Garner took the injured man to a physician's office in Freeland and then to the Bishop home where Mr. Bishop died at 9:35 p.m. The accident occurred at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Elmer G. Schaiberger, coroner, investigated.
Mr. Bishop is survived by his widow and a daughter, Mrs. Charles Clarkson of Seattle, Wash.
