Bert Power married the lovely Mattie Ola Fisher in July, 1922. They had three children,William,Marion(Albert Kraft)and Joan(Harold Willhite).
Law enforcement and its related responsibilities were a service to which he gave most of his life. When he joined the Yuma Police Department in 1928, there were four officers. In time, he became a sergeant, and being a sharpshooter and understanding the use of arms, he was the firearms instructor. Some of Yuma's leading officers in the Police and Sheriff's Departments received early training from Sgt. Power.
In 1941, he took a leave of absence and went to the west coast, in the employment of McDonald-Douglas Aircraft Corp., serving as fire arms instructor during World War II. He returned to Yuma in 1945 and resumed his service in the Police Department. When he was 65 in 1965, he retired from Yuma Police Department. His Sergeant badge #1, was retired with him.
Being an outdoorsman, Bert loved to fish and hunt. He entered many and won some fishing tournaments, and loved to hunt geese, deer, quail and other game.
Bert was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Many members of this fine Order were his closest friends; serving as pallbearers or honorary pallbearer for his funeral.
Bert's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were he and Mattie's greatest love. For many years, Bert and Mattie's "Power" house, their cabin at Martinez Lake, was the gathering spot for the family for holidays and get-togethers. Bert loved to take boat rides and of course, teach the grandkids to fish.
