Former Turkey Farm Couple Dies In Tulia

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Smith Corgill Purdy of Tulia, former Turkey residents, were held in the Wallace Funeral Home chapel in Tulia with Jack Hutton, minister of the Crosby Street Church of Christ, officiating.

Mr. Purdy, 85, a retired farmer, was found dead in his backyard Sunday morning with a gun-shot would in his head. A .410 shotgun was across his legs.

Mrs. Purdy was in Burneyville, Okla., and died Sunday morning in Swisher Memorial Hospital following an illness of several weeks.

They were married on July 1903, in Marietta, Okla., and moved to Tulia from Turkey three years ago. Mr. Purdy farmed in the Turkey area for about 45 years and was well known there.

Survivors include four sons, Cisco of Littlefield, Neal and Austin of Lubbock and Odell of Amarillo; four daughters, Mrs. G.M. Covington of Tulia, Mrs. Audie Kimbell and Mrs. Harvey Williamson, both of Amarillo, and Delia Hampton of Oklahoma City.
