Nicolas was born 1772 or early 1773 in Williams Township, South of Easton, Northampton Co, Pa. His birth year is based on his age, 81, at his death in Ohio on September 15, 1854. He was the eldest son of George Adam Yeisley and Elizabeth Zellner.

According to "Some of the first settlers......" (First Reformed Church Records), on May 28, 1798 Nicolas married Sarah Knecht in The First Reformed Church of Easton, Pa. The names of Sarah's parents are not known nor are her birth and death dates. If this record is correct, it's assumed that she was born about 1780 and died sometime after 1830 but before 1840.

However, the baptism records of Nicolas and Sarah's children and the estate settlement of John Richards drive one to the conclusion that Sarah Knecht is really Sarah Richards and that "Some of the first settlers......" (First Reformed Church Records) contains an error probably due to difficulty in translating the early German Script or a transcription error. Sarah Knecht, on the other hand, is not in the Knecht family history, and no birth/baptism or other record has been found identifying her.

Sarah Richards was born 1783 and died 1834. Her parents were John & Susanna Richards. She supposedly married Nicholas son of Nichlaus & Julianna and had 11 children but no church records of births / baptisms/ marriages/ deaths or unexplained census records have been found to date. Sarah Richards died in Northampton County. There is an Adm 1844(?) file #5257 in the indexes for Northampton Co Wills and Adm. for a Sarah Yeisley having a spouse Nicholas.

Nicolas and Sarah had 11 children. The first 9 were born in Northampton County and eight were baptised in the First Reformed Church of Easton as indicated below. John and Susannah Richards were sponsors at 2 of them, Maria Brotzman (John Richards sister, Sarah's Aunt) at another, Sarah's brother Jacob at one, Sarah's sister at another, and her sister Susanna (Richards) Spangenberg at another. Nicolas' father Geo Adam and his half sister Christina (Yeisley) Herzell were sponsors at 2 of the remaining 3 baptisms. Of the remaining 2 of Nicolas and Sarah's children, Joseph could have been born in either Northampton Co, Pa. or in Ohio where it's assumed Thomas (born 1825) was born.
