Dorothy was born June 28th 1929 at the home of her parents in Brunswick County; she was the daughter of the late Carl S. Ward Sr. and May Price Ward. Her first husband David E. Brittain was killed in a car accident in 1958. A daughter Jane Brittain Summer Underwood and a brother Carl S. Ward Jr. also preceded her in death.
Surviving is her loving husband, John Carr Davis of 44 years and sister Lois Nunalee Fox; daughter, Linda B. Chadwick and husband Chad; son, David C. Brittain and wife Marie, grandson Jonathan D. Brittain and wife Carrie, granddaughter, Amanda B. Long and great grandchildren, Savannah M. Benton and Breanna L. Brittain and Hunter L. Long. Brother and sister in-laws, Hubert and Lois Brittain and Elaine and Chad Phelps. She has many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends of whom all are special and she loved and cherished them very much.
She was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Southport for Forty Years and had recently moved back to her home church of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on Midway Road where she lived.
A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Dosher Memorial Hospital and New Hanover Regional Medical Center; also a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday January 19, 1010 at Antioch Baptist Church with Pastor Monroe Cooke officiating.
Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
