He was born July 1893, in Bolivia, the son of the late David and Mary Curtis Ward. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Price Ward. He was a lifetime member of Antioch Baptist Church near Bolivia. He attended Dawes Academy at Funston and N.C. State College. He served Brunswick County at one time as County Commissioner. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by a son, Carl S. Ward Jr. of Long Beach; two daughters, Mrs. John Carl (Dorothy) Davis of the home and Mrs. W. H. (Lois) Nunalee of Wilmington, one nephew; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Roy Cable at Antioch Baptist CHurch near Bolivia at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Hubert Brittain, Hugh Price, Allen Brittain, Liston Richardson, James Richardson and Herman Strong. Hononary pallbearers will be Dr. F. M. Burdette, Foster Mintz, Byson Hickman, L. P. Richardson, John Brown and deacons of Antioch Church.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Gilbert's Funeral Home, Southport.
