CIVIL WAR: Harry served with 13th Regiment, Co. G, PA Infantry as Corporal; he also served as Captain with the 22nd Regiment, PA Cavalry, 185th Volunteers; and with the 110th Regiment, PA Infantry.


The 1870 U.S. Census reflects “Harry C. Kay” (age: 29, place of birth: Pennsylvania) was residing in Baltimore, Maryland in the household of the Rev. Samuel Phillips (a German Reformed minister) and his wife, Rebecca. Rebecca was Harry’s sister. Harry’s occupation was listed as druggist.

The 1875 Kansas State Census indicates "H.C. Kay" (age 33) was residing in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas at that time. "Dr. H.H.C. Kay" is listed in the 1874-1875 Topeka City Directory. (office address-191 Kansas Avenue, residence address-same)

A letter (dated July 29, 1876) published in the August 9, 1876 issue of “The Daily Commonwealth” (Topeka, Kansas) (page 2) notes H.H.C. Kay and others from Topeka were in Silverton, Colorado.


H.H.C. Kay is listed as H.H.C. Kay in the 1880 U.S. Census and the 1885 Colorado State Census. He was single. Three miners were living in his household in 1885. The 1880 U.S. Census and the 1885 Colorado State Census indicate he was a physician.

Dr. H.H.C. Kay was an owner of mining claims in San Miguel County, Colorado.

In 1875, Dr. Kay's mother, Elizabeth; sister; Eliza Irvie Keever; and brother-in-law, A.C. Keever, were residing in Topeka, Kansas (Topeka Avenue, between 7th & 8th Avenue).
