"J W Kay, father of Mrs C L Wattles of this city, died at his home at Dedham last Friday after a lingering illness of several months. The funeral was held Sunday at Dedham. J W Kay was born in Pennsylvania in March 1826. In 1859 he married Miss Sarah J McDuell, who survives him. When he first came to Iowa, he settled in Bremer County, coming to Carroll County in 1870 and engaging in business in Carrollton. He afterward removed to Coon Rapids and from there to Dedham in 1884, where he has since resided. He was one of the county's best citizens and widely and favorably known in the southern part of the county. His family has the sympathy of all in their grievious loss!"
