Obituary:
Mrs. Mary Wattles, wife of the late Chauncey Wattles, of Los Angeles, passed away May 21 at her home after an illness of four years during which time she never left her bed but was lovingly cared for by her daughters, Mrs. Gladys Gilmore and Mrs. Grace Schmidt.
Mary Wattles was born in Waverly, Ia., June 23, 1861. She married and spent her early womanhood in Iowa. The Wattles family moved to Neligh in 1901 coming there from Pierce, Neb. They moved to Los Angeles 22 years later.
Mrs. Wattles was a devoted member of the Episcopal church and active in the social life of the community as long as her health permitted. A gentle, kindly soul, beloved of all who knew her.
Left to mourn her passing besides the two daughters in Los Angeles, are Mrs. Nettie Nagl of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Jane Ketchum of Anchorage, Alaska. Also, three grandchildren, Nancy Nagl, Richard Ketchum and Mrs. Bettie Jane Brill and a host of friends, survive.
Funeral services were held May 24 at the Little Church of Flowers. Interment in the family lot in beautiful Forest Lawn in Glendale, Calif.
