Lewis Donaldson was the son of Nathaniel Donaldson and Candace Sykes and the husband of Hannah Millard. As an adult Lewis lived on a portion of the original Donaldson homestead in Butternuts. In 1845-46 he served as a Deputy Sheriff in Otsego Co, NY.
In the 1830's Lewis's parents, siblings, uncles, and cousins changed the family name from 'Danielson' to 'Donaldson,' believing that 'Donaldson' was the original family surname back in 1600's Scotland.
