The daughter of English immigrants named Edward Rothwell and Sarah Barker, Emma was married to Clarence Langdon Campbell, Sr. He was a detective for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and they were the parents of 11 children.

Emma died at Missouri Pacific Hospital from heart disease and an umbilical hernia. At the time of her death, she was 78 years, 5 months and 16 days old.

Emma was buried on 03 Apr 1944 and was survived by her husband, Clarence, who passed away in 1945.
