The daughter of Clarence Langdon Campbell, Sr. and Emma Rothwell, Grace was born and raised in St. Louis County, Missouri. Her father was a farmer.

She married John "Reno" Ivy, Jr. around 1925. They lived in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois, and he worked as a commercial traveler for a plumbing company.

By 1935, the Ivys had returned to the St. Louis area. Reno worked as a salesman for National Chamber of Commerce. His parents also lived with the family at that time.

They were the parents of at least 2 children before their marriage ended.

Children from first marriage: 2 sons.

Grace married John Miller on 06 Jun 1953 in San Diego, California.
