A nearly 72 year resident of Union County, Kentucky, Joseph Edward "Ed" Brady was born in Marion County, Kentucky on February 4, 1876 and passed away at 6:30p.m. Sunday, January 23, 1977 at Union County Hospital where he had been a patient for one week with pneumonia. Mr. Brady was 12 days away from celebrating his 101st birthday.

Mr. Brady was the last surviving child of George Washington Brady & Mary Louise McCauley. His first wife was Ida Mae Miles whom he married on January 21, 1896. In 1902, Mr. Brady married Minnie Ferguson Brady. She preceded him in death on October 10, 1974 after 72 years of marriage. Mr. Brady was the father of two surviving daughters, Mrs. Estella Beyert of Pontiac, Michigan; Mrs. John W. "Nannie Emma" Robinson of Henshaw, Kentucky; and 2 sons Jeff Edward "J.E." Brady (Find a Grave #47178142-April 3,1919 to May 10,1944) who preceed him in death on May 10, 1944 and Miles A. Brady, (born October 26,1896 - death date unknown) who preced him in death. Mr. Brady was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He was surived by 10 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 21 great great grandchildren.

Mr. Brady came to Union County in July 1905 from Louisville, Kentucky. He followed in the footsteps of his father and started to work in a blacksmith shop. This shop was owned by the late Charles Beaven. Brady later acquired the shop at Henshaw, Kentucky and he also had a blacksmith shop in Shawneetown, Illinois where he resided for a period of time with his wife. Mr. Brady retired when he was 88 years old and also roofed his own home that year. He was a member of the Catholic faith. Mr. Brady was honored with a birthday party at the Grover Center, Kentucky Rest Home on his 100th birthday and commissioned a Kentucky Colonel.

Funeral services for Mr. Brady were held 10:00a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 1977 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, Kentucky with the Father James C. Hite, pastor of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in charge. Burial was in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis, Kentucky.
