OBITUARY REEVES - - Samuel Reeves was born in Meigs County, Ohio, July 22nd, 1846, and passed peacefully away at 12:30 a.m. April 12th, 1931, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.R. Gaylord, at Atlantic, Iowa.

When he was two years of age, the family moved to Illinois and later, in 1853, they came to Iowa, settling in Fremont County, about four and one-half miles north of Sidney. Here Mr. Reeves grew to manhood. His father enlisted in the army when Samuel was only sixteen years of age, and he was left to care for the family and the farm. He attended country school and Tabor College, and taught school. In early life he united with the Methodist Church at Sidney and was a faithful member during his lifetime.

He was married in 1868 to Anna M. Burnham, who preceded him in death some twenty-two years ago. To this union were born seven children: Josiah H. Reeves, Akron, Colorado; Loren E. Reeves, deceased; Herman Reeves, deceased; Orval Reeves, Crete, Nebraska; Mrs. W.R. Gaylord, Atlantic; Elbert M. Reeves, deceased, and a daughter who died in infancy.

The hospitality of their home was known to all in the neighborhood, near the Cherry Grove Church, where he and his wife were faithful workers. In the later years of his life, he, with his wife and youngest son, moved to Sidney where he was engaged in the abstract, loan and real estate business. Some ten years later he went to Otis, Colorado, and returned to Iowa in 1924, to make his home with his daughter in Atlantic.

Since the first of January he was confined in his room, and for the last two months was bedfast. Besides the surviving children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he leaves to mourn his passing one brother, Hugh Reeves of Sidney, and two sisters, Mrs. F.J. Laird of Tabor and Mrs. Dell Burnham of Griswold, together with a large circle of friends in this community.
