Telegram to Mr. S. A. Sparkmen Monday night, announced the death of his brother, William J. Sparkman, in Birmingham, in the early part of the night. The deceased was a native of Morgan County and for a number of years in the recent past, had resided in this city. At the time of his death, he was doing business for a large manufacturing concern in Birmingham. He was about forty-five years of age and died of consumption.
The remains were brought here the following day and buried in the City Cemetery, where sleep the dust of his wife and other kindred. Years ago he married Miss Siome Slife. Four orphan children, two sons and two daughters are left. Two of them are with Grandmother Slife in Ohio and two are with their Grandfather Sparkman in this county.
Mr. Sparkman was an average good business man and of recognized personal integrity. When the City Court of Decatur was established, he was appointed its Clerk and after its abolishment he was appointed Justice of the Peace. In these as well as the official relations, he proved himself capable and true. Mr. Sparkman was a member of Hermoine Lodge, Knights of Pythias, of this city, and carried an insurance policy of $3,000 in that fraternity.
