Funeral for James David Bates, 86, of Rt. 5, Athens, who died Tuesday at the Athens-Limestone Hospital, will be at 3 p.m. today at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Roselawn Cemetery.
He was a member of the Sunny Hill Church of Christ and a World War I veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marcena Allen Bates; three sons, Hubert Paul Bates, Pat Allen Bates and David Lenzy Bates, all of Athens; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Usery of Elkmont and Mrs. Martha Louise Christopher of Athens; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
