Bessie Christena Simon was the daughter of Abram Reger Simon and Molly Jane Wine Simon.

She was born Dec 20, 1887 at Supreme, NE and died on Sept 8, 1968 at Cottage Grove, OR. She had 4 brothers: James, Joseph, Walter & Guy.

Bessie, her parents & brothers homesteaded near Devil's Tower (in WY) for several years but eventually returned to NE.

In 1904, Bessie married her first husband: Charles Huston Strait (FAG #17276595). She was 17 years old and Charles was 18 years old. I do not know if this marriage was annulled or ended in divorce but in 1906, Charles married his second wife: Ella Mae Sample. Both Charles and Ella are buried in Kansas.

On July 24, 1906, Bessie married Roy William Rakestraw at Nelson, NE. Bessie & Roy had 2 daughters: Zola & Elma Christena.

Daughter Zola died on April 30, 1919 at age 10 years from Diptheria & Measles. She is buried @ Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.

Daugther Elma lived to adulthood and married Cecil Umpleby. Both are buried here at Taylor-Lane.

Bessie & Roy lived in NE, KS & CA before moving to Cottage Grove in 1941. At the time of her death, Bessie was a member of the Gibbs Avenue Church of Christ. Roy had died in 1951.

Bessie's father, Abram Reger Simon, was the brother to my great grandfather, Jacob.
