Another Pioneer Passes Away, Dying Peacefully This Morning.
At the Sisters Hospital in this city at thirty minutes after four O'clock this morning passed from life Daniel Woodman aged 55 years.
Biographical
As near as can be learned Daniel Woodman was born in England, but early in life came with his family to the New World, settling near Faribault, Minnesota. Subsequently, and at the age of about 20 years, he removed to Colorado, in which state he resided until 1863, when he came to Virginia City, this state. From that point he made several trips into Missoula county, buying and selling cattle. On one of these trips he entered on a ranch property three miles west of the city of Missoula and in 1866, took up a permanent residence there. In 1867 he was married to Miss Ann Bolen, the daughter of Indian Agent Bolen of the Yakima district, Washington, with whom he lived happily up to the time of his death. Seven children are the fruits of the union, all of whom are at home excepting two sons and a daughter, who live at Sprague, Washington.
In 1867 Mr. Woodman was a candidate for sheriff of Missoula county, but was defeated. In 1872 he removed to the present site of LoLo where he has since lived. In 1878 he was elected to the office of county sheriff and assessor over John G. Dooley, a position which he filled with great credit. He also served two terms as district assessor.
On Tuesday last he was brought from LoLo to the Sisters hospital here suffering with an attach of the quinsy. Early last evening pneumonia set in and this morning he died. The remains will be buried at LoLo on Monday. Another good man is gone.
