Madie, who died as an infant, was the fourth of the seven children of Charles Joseph Yarborough (1857-1945) and his second wife Julie Breeden (1875-1951). Three of the seven died very young - Madie, her sister Gladis (1900-1902, the first child), and their brother Pleasant (the last child, 1916-1916). They had four full siblings (2 brothers and 2 sisters) and nine half siblings, one of whom also died in infancy. Their father was a farmer near Liverpool, LA and for several years, also the Sheriff of St Helena Parish, LA.
