Second child and first son of Charles Joseph Yarborough (1857-1945) and his first wife Fannie Willie Warren Webb Yarborough (1860-1896), John Edgar (Ed) was born in Greensburg LA. His mother died when he was fifteen years old. On 29 July, 1904 he married Mattie Eliza DeGant at the country home of his father and stepmother Charles and Julia Breeden Yarborough. The ceremony was a double wedding, with Ed's sister Lena marrying William Travis also. Like his father, Ed was a farmer. He and Mattie had ten children, one of whom (John Edgar Jr.) died as a child of seven of yellow fever. Ed died at Seventh Ward Hospital in Hammond, LA 10 Nov. 1962.
