Although her tombstone is (uncommonly) specific about her birth and death dates, both are uncertain. The 8 July 1900 census reports her birth as Oct. 1899, and this agrees with her age in the 1910 census, when she is 20 and single, living with her father, stepmother, and siblings on the family farm near Liverpool, LA. Since Nancy's mother was dead in 1900, it is possible that her birthdate was misreported in that census. The death of a "Nannie Bates" was recorded in New Orleans on 10 Feb 1915. This agrees with the record of Nancy's child's death, on Jan 26, 1915, though the New Orleans woman is 19 years old, and Nancy was 24 when she died. It is also not recorded that Nancy and her husband lived in New Orleans. Their lives were spent in and around St. Helena and Tangipahoa Parishes, LA. It is likely that Nannie was born in Oct. 1899 (as the 1900 census reports) and it is possible that she died the same day, or soon after, that her infant did.
Nancy's mother Fannie Warren Yarborough died in 1896 before Nancy was seven years old. Nancy had nine siblings, and she and six of them were alive and at home at the time of their mother's death. They ranged in age from 15 to just under 2. She also had an older half-brother, Oscar Webb, child of Fannie's first marriage. Their father remarried two years later and his children still at home were raised by him and his second wife, Julia Breeden, with whom he had six more children. Family stories indicate all the siblings were close, remaining so in their adult years.
