Reverend Clarence J. Mays, 70, of 802 Crawford Ave., Augusta, Georgia, entered into rest Thursday, August 20, 1992, at his residence. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Platt's Funeral Home, with the Rev. H.K. McKnight officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Joe Mays, Rev. Bernard Williams, the Rev. Valda Grims, Curtis Davis, Ray L. Wilson and Jerry Wilson. Rev. Mays, a native of Augusta, was pastor of Holiness Deliverance Temple and an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Wiladean Thornton Mays; a stepson, Donald Blankenship, Glendive, Montana; two daughters, Annie June Mays, Augusta, and Jo Ann Johns, Hephzibah; a stepdaughter, Earnestine Kitchens, Pineville, La.; five sisters, Essie Duncan, Savannah, Pauline Wilson, Augusta, Mary Heath, North Augusta, Irene Allen, Belvedere, and Edna Altine, Charleston, S.C.; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
