Mrs. Seth Brittain, member of a pioneer Madison county family, died at her home in Winterset Sunday (July 23, 1939). She was 77 years of age and had been ill for the past six months.

Mrs. Brittain was the former Lucy Detomenia Farris, daughter of Charles and Mary (Keener) Farris, and was born in Madison county on May 31, 1862.

On February 7, 1884, she was married to Seth Brittain. They were the parents of six children. One daughter Mrs. Mabel DeWitt, preceded her mother in death, leaving a son,Albert, who was reared in the home of the grandparents.

Mrs. Brittain was affiliated with the Church of Christ, and was an active member and worker in the church.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Lloyd and Charley; three daughters, Mrs. Lois Clark, Mrs. Josie Hendricks, and Mrs. Mary Allen; all of Winterset; a brother, Francis Farris of Ansley, Neb.; 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ Tusday in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Tom Foglesong. Burial was made in the U.S. cemetery. Pallbearers were Gerald Brittain, Paul Brittain, Alvin Brittain,Earnest Brittain, Homer Allen and Clyde Hendricks."
