Mabel Elizabeth Brittain was born in Madison county, Ia. 6 miles northeast of Winterset December 7th, 18—and died at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Seth Brittain on July 4, 1904. The funeral services were held July 7th at the North River U. B. church and burial was made in the McDonald cemetery. Her husband, parents, brothers and sisters and a large number of friends and relatives remain to mourn her early death. Mabel was always of a kind, loving disposition, always genial to her parents and loved by all who knew her. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.

The deceased was married to Jesse J. DeWitt, January 28, 1903.
The funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 5, at the North River U. B. church, and the interment was at the McDonald cemetery. Her husband and her father and mother, brothers and sister and many other kindred and friends are left to mourn in bereavement.

Mabel Elizabeth Brittain was born in Madison county, Iowa, Dec. 7th, 1885 and departed this life July 4th, 1904, in answer to her master’s call, at the home of her parents nine miles northeast of Winterset. She was married to J. J. DeWitt Jan. 27th, 1903. Her age was 19 years 6 months and 27 days. Mable Brittain was one of Madison county’s brightest girls and was loved by all who knew her. Her life was thus cut short in its beginning. It was sad sight to witness the old and young, who had known and loved her, coming to see the closing of that early grave and pay the last respect to one who in life had been the favorite of all. She leaves a husband, mother, father, two brothers, three sisters and a host of friends to mourn her loss, and an infant child who if spared will be destined to go through life without the knowledge of a mother’s love. Thus a noble young girl has gone from us and the home is vacant of a loved one which never can be filled but heaven is richer. Her funeral was held at the North River U. B. church and all that was mortal of Mabel Brittain was laid in peaceful repose in the McDonald cemetery, there to await the resurrection morning.
