Age 78, of Owosso, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at his residence.

Clarence retired from Memorial Healthcare, where he worked in the maintenance department.

Funeral Services will be held 10 am, Saturday, October 31, 2009 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with Fr. John Fain officiating. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm and on Friday from 2 to 8 pm, with the family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Scripture Service will be held at 7 pm.

Clarence was born on June 2, 1931 in Owosso, the son of William H. and Audley (Oakes) McCarthy. He attended St. Paul High School.

In December of 1952 he married Marilyn Talbot, who predeceased him. On February 4, 1989 he married Dawn (Ockerman) Lawrence in Owosso. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. He enjoyed using his hands working in construction as a carpenter and plasterer for many years. He was an avid collector of tractors, lighthouses and trains, of which the Pere Marquette 1225 was his favorite.

Survivors include his wife, Dawn; children, Michael (Patricia) McCarthy of Owosso, Terry Chahoy of Owosso, George (Pamela) Ockerman of Swartz Creek, James (Jan) Lawrence of Ovid, Michelle (Ron) Latunski of Owosso, Val (Ruth) Lawrence of Owosso; grandchildren, Josh (Amy) McCarthy, Jason (Carey) McCarthy, Eric Chahoy, Clint (Dess) Chahoy, Stephanie (Dave) Chahoy, Karrie (Travis) Vanpoppelen, George (Julie) Ockerman, Tim Lawrence, Andrew Lawrence, Alyssa Lawrence, and Nichelle Garvie; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Kaleb, Tyler, Madison, Brady, and Aaliyah; brothers and sisters, Don (Mabel) McCarthy of Tallahassee, Bob (Pat) Huska of Owosso, Tim (Mary Ellen) McCarthy of Owosso, Fred (Janet) Balcom of Owosso, and Bill (Judy) Mallory of Owosso.

He was predeceased by his son, Christopher; daughter, Kathleen; his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Railroad Engine 1225.
